Majed Moqed
Majed Moqed (b. June 18, 1977) was a hijacker on American Airlines Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon.
Background
Moqed was born on June 18, 1977 in Saudi Arabia. His father was head of the Baniauf tribe. Moqed later attended King Fahd University.
"Friends have said that he was known for his desire to join a jihad and was a relative of an extremist leader who took part in the 1979 storming of Mecca's Grand Mosque, Islam's most holy shrine."[1]
Timeline
2000
- November 20 - Majed Moqed applied for and received a two-year B-1/B-2 (tourist/business) visa in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His application was incomplete, but he did list California as his intended destination. He claimed to be a “student” but left blank the line on which he was asked to supply the street address of his present school. The officer who adjudicated his visa said they did not interview Moqed: “I would have written some notes on the application form if I had.” He was not interviewed because, according to the officer who issued the visa, “We only interviewed Saudis if there was a previous denial of a visa application or if there was something wrong with the application.” Incompleteness by itself evidently did not trigger an interview.[2]
- November 25, 2000 - Gulf Air 334 from Bahrain to Tehran, Iran with Satam al-Suqami.
2001
- May 2 - Arrived at Dulles International Airport, with Ahmed al-Ghamdi, on a flight from London originating in Dubai.[3] Each was processed by different immigration inspectors. Moqed was admitted as a tourist for six months.[2]

- July - Moqed and Salem al Hazmi acquired USA identification cards.[2]
- Late July - Moqed reportedly stopped at the Adult Lingerie Center in Beltsville (Maryland, which also has adult videos. He stayed there ten minutes, looked through some magazines, and browsed the videos, but did not buy anything. He returned at lease once again. The manager thought maybe that Moqed was a cop.[5]
- August - Ahmed al Ghamdi and Moqed obtained USA identification cards.[2]
- August 2 - Ahmed al Ghamdi, Moqed, Salem al Hazmi, and Omari acquired Virginia identification cards, with help of Mihdhar and Hanjour. All of these identifications were obtained fraudulently.[2]
- August 25 - Reservations booked on American Airlines Flight 77 for Mihdhar and Moqed, using Moqed's credit card. Moqed provided his address as 4423 Lehigh Road #126, College Park, Maryland. Once the reservations were made, the tickets were not mailed out because the shipment address did not match the billing address.
- September 7 - Salem and Nawaf al Hazmi, along with Moqed, requested that their Virginia identification cards be reissued.[2]
